The EJ Connect application has certain interactions with the device on which it is running. These include that the EJ Connect application can access the local file directory of the device and can push notifications and alarms to the device home, notification, and lock screens. The device may provide the user with buttons for adjusting these options.
The audience of Educational Justice’s EJ Connect application includes children under the age of 13 (“Child” or “Children”). Guidelines from Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store require applications whose target audience includes Children to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”). COPPA has requirements about the collection, use and disclosure of personally identifiable information from Children.
This section describes the COPPA standards Educational Justice applies to information we collect from Children.
Before collecting, using, or disclosing information from Children, Educational Justice must obtain verifiable consent from a Child’s Parent or legal guardian (as used in this section, “Parents” or “you”). Educational Justice obtains that consent during the initial admission process for our program.
COPPA also requires notice of what information Educational Justice collects from Children, how it uses such information, and its disclosure practices for such information. The notice informs Parents of the limited ways that we use Children’s information so that they can decide whether to agree to the collection of their Child’s information. Parents can consent by signing a provided COPPA disclosure and verbally confirming their understanding and agreement with an Educational Justice employee. Children cannot use the Platform without this consent.
This section notifies Parents of:
This section only applies to Children under the age of 13 and supplements the other provisions of this privacy policy. Only the other provisions of this privacy policy apply to teens and adults.
We only collect as much information about a Child as is reasonably necessary for the Child to participate in our program, and we do not condition their participation on the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary for the admission and matchmaking processes. This section explains the information we collect and the purpose of collection.
A Child must provide us with the following personal information to register with the Platform:
We may request additional information from your Child, but any additional information is optional. We specify whether information is required or optional when we request it.
We enable users to communicate with others on or through the Platform through chat, and the nature of this features allows Children to disclose personal information about themselves. Educational Justice monitors the content of these communications, but we do not control the actions of users or third parties with whom your Child shares their information. We encourage Parents to educate their Children about safe internet use and to monitor their Children’s use of social features.
We use the personally identifiable information we collect from your Child to:
We use non-identifiable information we collect for writing grants, newsletters, annual reports and other public communications about the Organization.
We do not share or transfer Children’s personal information other than as described in this section.
We may disclose aggregated information about users and information that does not identify any individual for grant writing, annual reports, or other public communications.
We may disclose Children’s personal information:
There are some features of the Platform which allow Children to chat and share files, images, or reading materials. The content of these messages is only accessible to Educational Justice employees and agents, Parents of the user in the case of middle-school aged users (“Scholars”), and our developer, MA Enterprise LLC. The content of these chat messages is limited to plain text, emoji from the device’s operating system keyboard, .PNG, .JPEG, and .PDF files. The Platform also provides users with the ability to schedule tutoring sessions through a calendar function.
We encourage parents to educate their Children about safety online and to carefully monitor their Children’s use of social features to ensure they do not disclose their personal information through them.
At any time, you may review personal information we maintain about your child by logging into your Child’s account and visiting the account profile page. At any time, you may require us to correct the personal information, refuse to permit us from further collecting or using the Child’s information, or request that we deactivate and/or delete your child’s account and the information in it.
You can request a change to your child’s personal information or request the deactivation and/or deletion of your child’s account by contacting us at support@educationaljustice.org or by telephone at (502) 709-8719.
If you choose to remove your Child from the program their account will be deactivated. The information will then remain accessible only to Educational Justice employees and agents. You may request to have that information deleted pending review by Educational Justice. Educational Justice may retain a record that your Child participated in the program.
Educational Justice contracts with Microsoft Azure for web services to host the platform and with MA Enterprise LLC. to build and run the platform. Personal information may be shared with these third parties for those purposes. Contracts between Educational Justice and these third parties prevent the disclosure or use of your Child’s personal information.
No other third-party operators may collect or maintain personal information from Children through the Platform.
