Scholar Adaora and Mentor Shan'Taya loved their time together in the program. Adaora feels that their time together through Educational Justice is more than just traditional tutoring and that "it is people that really understand you," as she feels truly seen by Shan'Taya.
Scholar Manuel and Mentor Trent initially bonded over their shared love of soccer. As they continued to meet every week for their tutoring sessions, they inspired and uplifted one another through their time together. Manuel was inspired to become an Activist and continue his work with Educational Justice to this day as a staff member.
Mentor Shriya and Scholar Darius worked together for two years. Not only did they improve Darius's math and English skills, but they also broadened Darius's reading horizons through reading Shakespeare's Macbeth together.
The Educational Justice experience is more than just being a tutor; it encompasses everything it means to be a Mentor. By providing these students with a welcoming, supportive community, both Mentors and Scholars grow in their confidence, leadership, and empowerment.
